Daniel Dociu master study. by JoshCalloway Daniel Dociu master study. by JoshCalloway
Master study of arena net art director Daniel Dociu. He is an amazing artist and I hope to one day paint and draw as smartly as he does.

Thanks Mithras, it's mostly a lot of painting, pushing, pulling, erasing. Based off his work I would guess that most of his decision making stems from working with traditional media. Oils and charcoal. The best advice I can give is to study with traditional 10% - 20% of the time and translate what you learn into digital media.

I love the ArenaNet art style! As a matter of fact I'm a big fan of Daniel Dociu as well. He's amazing!
According to this, you are amazing, too.

Hahah, Thanks Chinese. I'm not that amazing, still have a ton of work ahead of me before I feel I can call Daniel a peer.

Good job!
The original seems to have more vibrant highlights though. Just something to keep an eye out for.
Keep at it! :D

Thanks Torres, yea I could use a bit of color dodge to pop those highlights. I'll revisit it.

It's okay :p It's just a study! It is meant for you to acknowledge that you might need to pop out your highlights and move on to the next painting :)

Hehe, yea but it's always good to go back and fix / make corrections right away to understand. Then I can bring that to my next painting. Especially if it only takes 5 minutes to correct.

Punched some of the highlights up, that helped. Thanks Torres.
